Weekend-sized builds, timed and tested. Honest about the mess.
About us

Inside the Tinker Studio

We're a small, independent workshop in Stroud with one long table, a lot of cardboard and a stopwatch that never leaves the bench.

How a project gets on the site

  1. Build it twice. Once to learn it, once with the stopwatch running.
  2. Hand it to a newcomer. Someone who hasn't seen it follows only our written steps.
  3. Note every snag. Wherever they pause or get stuck becomes a "watch out" line.
  4. Publish the real time. We use the newcomer's time, not ours.

“We'd rather you finish a small thing than abandon a big one.”

We're independent and not sponsored by any tool or craft brand. When we name a product, it's because we've used it, and we'll always suggest a cheaper or recycled alternative where one exists.

Who we write for

Parents planning a rainy Saturday, teachers looking for a 45-minute lesson, retirees with a shed and a curiosity, teenagers who want to make something move. If you have an afternoon and a table, you're our reader.
